| Short History
Stevenson & Co was established in 1985 by John Stevenson at the present address at Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood. The Practice has grown on the reputation of both a tax and business strength, in addition to the usual accounting services.
With a client base of circa 250 the Practice has a diverse range of clients, from the small tax cases to limited companies with turnovers in excess of £10 million.
Phil Beare joined the Practice in 2004 and became responsible for introducing to the Practice a higher level of 21st century technology. In April 2006 the Practice was incorporated and, as co-directors and joint promoters of the Practice, they are working to expand the client base.

JOHN STEVENSON
I began my accountancy career with a large 18 partner City firm of Chartered Accountants in 1965 when I had the opportunity of specialising in taxation. I worked on all forms of taxation dealing with high worth individuals, companies and partnerships.
In 1972 I joined another large City firm and became a Manager of a Tax Team gaining valuable experience that led to me establishing my own firm in East London in 1977 in partnership with a former colleague.
1982 brought a change in direction when I took directorships with former client companies. In 1985 I started the practice of Stevenson & Co which has grown organically since that time.
My City experience and training provide me with a detailed working knowledge of all forms of taxation in addition to accountancy and my Practice experience has given me an excellent understanding of commerce and business in its varying forms. I have been working in the accountancy profession now for 43 years throughout which I have dealt with most, if not all, of the departments of HM Revenue & Customs. I have had my own Practice for almost 30 years and enjoy utilising my experience for the benefit of clients.

PHILIP BEARE
I entered the accountancy profession in 1980 with a local firm of Accountants based in Essex and qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1984. My experience has been gained predominantly in local practice acting for businesses and clients of all sizes and from most sectors. Having a general practice background has provided me with experience in most areas of accountancy, audit and taxation.
From 1992 to 1995 I had a brief spell away from public practice when I joined a local College of Further and Higher Education to assist in preparing the College for incorporation. This involved the reorganisation of the finance function, installation of computer systems and training staff.
I live in Brentwood and I am a busy husband and father of three young boys who are attending local schools. I enjoy a game of squash and always welcome the opportunity to play new opponents. |
